This was taken last week at the National Arboretum. Most of the flora hadn’t sprouted yet, but this tree’s bright yellow flowers contrasted well against the deep blue sky (I was using a polarizer). In the background are the old corinthian columns of the Capitol building that were replaced after the Capitol dome was completed.
What big eyes you have…
Photo of the Day: Youth in Nicaragua
Photo of the Day: Boats of San Juan del Sur
This photo was taken from the summit of an ocean cliff in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. The view below is of the half moon cove that provides shelter for fishing boats and beach goers alike.
My compadre Nils, a native of Nicaragua working in Costa Rica who I met while crossing into Nicaragua, persuaded me to take a detour to SJDS on my way to Granada.
With its serene ocean view and party atmosphere, this friendly ocean town was definitely worth the stop. Nils showed me the ropes of the town and led me to this spot, the colossal 24 meter Christ of Mercy statue, 134 meters above the ocean on display for the town below.
Red Carpet Affair, DC Style
Last Saturday some friends hosted a theme party in honor of the birth of Blue Ivy, the new-born daughter of music artists Beyonce and Jay-Z. To give the party (hosted at a six bedroom house in Mt. Pleasant) a club feel and some red carpet pizazz, the set up a backdrop and red carpet runway at the entrance.
I have to say that the runway idea was brilliant! It added the extra touch needed to pull the theme together and get people in the mood, even if they didn’t come dressed up. Personally, I had a great time photographing all the beautiful people in their club attire. From the photos you would think that this shindig happened in NYC or LA, not the middle of a residential neighborhood in DC.
As for the party attendees, everyone seemed to love it. It was the perfect icebreaker before people headed upstairs to hang out in one of the “VIP lounges” or hit the dance floor. I think more house parties should incorporate a photo op at the entrance–and it’s easy to do!
Tracey, Giselle, and Paul, you throw a hell of a party! Some photos from the event below:
New Theme of the Week: Urban Lights
I’ve always loved the way that cities look at night, especially with the flare added by tungsten lights and moving cars. That’s why this week’s theme is “urban lighting.”
This photo was taken in Mt. Pleasant just last night–I’ve wanted to photography this confluence of alleys and graffiti for some time and finally got on it.
